Visual Art

This page contains various paintings and drawings I created over the years. Some of these pieces date back to the early 80's when I started paying attention to my style of painting, then experimenting with that style through different brush strokes. I also discovered that I enjoy mathematics and numerology through my artwork... go figure.

Magic Square Numbers.jpg

Nine - Organic
36" x 48" canvas, Acrylic.

The first of the series. The idea was to just go with the flow and try to match the lines in the separate quadrants following the rules of the Magic Square. The amount of elements in any 3 squares, horizontally, vertically and diagonally, equals 72. Then... 7 + 2 = 9.

NINE - Tai Chi
36" x 48" canvas, Acrylic.

This the second of the series. I was in fact practising Tai Chi and as my fingers from both hands past in front of my face I noticed a fascinating effect of movement that I tried to capture in this painting, following the rules of the Magic Square. The amount of elements in any 3 squares, horizontally, vertically and diagonally, equals 72. Then... 7 + 2 = 9. I count the negative space as an element as well

NINE_Namaste_acrylic.jpg

Nine - Namaste
36" x 48" canvas, Acrylic.

This is the third of the series. The linear-thinking graphic designer in me came out on this one. I attempted symmetry following the rules of the Magic Square. The amount of elements in any 3 squares, horizontally, vertically and diagonally, equals 72. Then... 7 + 2 = 9.
For a long time, I didn't realize the painting was upside-down. My mother had hung the painting and suddenly it made sense to me. Thank you mom.

NINE_Chakra_Middle_SM.jpg

Nine - Chakra
9 @ 12" x 12" wood panels, Acrylic.

Forth of the series... currently unfinished. I chose 9 separate 12" x 12" panels and will be combining the separate quadrants with magnets. Each panel is following the rules of the Magic Square. The amount of elements in any 3 squares, horizontally, vertically and diagonally, equals 72. Then... 7 + 2 = 9. I did actually finish painting the other quadrants but sometimes things don't work out like you want so I have started over with the 6 side quadrants.
